Our client was looking for an extra bedroom and larger living space, with a contemporary, open-plan kitchen and dining area. They approached Heronlake on a recommendation from one of our existing clients and, due to a growing family, we had a very tight timeline to stick to.
We worked on a single-storey rear extension alongside a complete remodel and refurbishment of the whole house.

The client came to us with clear design ideas in mind for a home that complemented their lifestyle.
A key focal point of this project was light. To add more natural light, we knocked down the old conservatory and added three large roof lights and opted for lots of glass on the rear wall of the extension. We also increased the ceiling height in the extended part of the kitchen to create an airy living space.
To avoid any obstruction, the client didn’t want any supportive posts or columns in the middle of the space. We were able to maintain the open-plan layout with some complex steelwork configurations.
Heronlake worked flexibly to accommodate our client’s budget and timelines. By splitting the project into two phases, we were able to carry out preparations (such as plumbing and electrics) for a phase two garage conversion into the phase one scope. This meant when the client was ready, it would be simple to roll out the garage conversion to complete their dream home.
Stand-out features of Woodfell
The overarching goal of this project was to transform the home into something airy and modern, while keeping the essence of the older home by highlighting some original features. Crittall-style doors, architectural and ornate coving, and chunkier skirtings all form part of the modern/traditional scheme.
Heronlake took care of everything, including installing new heating, plumbing and electrics, remodeling the property, and working with a bespoke handpainted kitchen company for a smooth integration and fresh, contemporary finish. We even managed to shoe-horn a temporary patio into the budget to complete the look externally.
