Oriel House.

Location: Haslemere
Date: 2025

Following a sizeable extension with another building company that didn’t quite hit the brief, this Oriel House client approached Heronlake.

There was just one small project left for us to do: a small but unusual extension. We added a downstairs toilet, internal storage, and some design work.

Creative functionality

With an artistic eye and his own sense of style, the client wanted his home to make a statement.

He opted for oriel windows that jut out from the main structure of the house, creating a three-dimensional effect, as well as a green sedum roof. The extension, made of wooden panels, carved a striking contrast against the brick of the original building.

The client added plenty of his own art to the space, with pieces looking out of the top windows to make an instant impression from the outside.

We kept things simple to get the new area up and running without delay, partitioning the building to bring the new studio to life.

Small project. Big impact

Although this was a relatively small, straightforward project, the outcome was beautifully unique.

We worked around some of the building’s existing elements, like windows and boiler flues, to create a roof with space in all the right places. The back door of the property had a covered porch, and we did some design work while joining everything together to create a quirky effect in line with the client’s taste.

Outside, we played with levels in eye-catching ways. Inside, we installed new internal cabinetry and coat cupboards to maximise space in the home.

This Oriel House project is a perfect example of how we collaborate with clients. You’ll never catch Heronlake working off the same set plans. Instead, we take your ideas and vision to help you create your perfect home.
