A family home transformation that created more space for living and spending time together, we constructed a single-storey rear extension for our client at Firgrove Hill.

With an architect’s detailed drawings to work from, we collaborated with the client to

pull the interior together — from design to colours to surfaces. The process was flexible and the client didn’t have to stick to an interior design package to bring their new space to life.

The result was a new, bigger kitchen and dining area filled with details that met the client’s design and lifestyle goals. A modern, light-filled home completed just ahead of schedule.

“Working with Heronlake was a fantastic experience from start to finish. We are exceptionally happy with the outcome and can’t recommend Heronlake enough.”

A seamless extension

The goal of this extension was to make sure it blended well with the existing property. We knocked down a rear conservatory that was too hot in summer and too cold in winter, and turned the wasted space into a well-presented, cohesive home.

Brick detailing came into play here. To blend the extension with the original building, we matched the colour of the bricks and recreated the original angled bricks above the windows and doors.

On top of this, Heronlake stained internal wooden doors, painted the existing lounge and took care of key elements like tiling, plumbing and electrics.

“Toby was extremely responsive during our due diligence process and provided support and advice as we were deciding what to do. Then Stuart took over the engagement when our build started providing great guidance and communication right the way through. Nothing was too much trouble and any challenges were overcome during the build.”

Stand-out features of Firgrove Hill

Inside, Firgrove Hill is noticeably lighter and brighter. Large skylights and interior glazed panels, bespoke-created by Heronlake, let natural light flow throughout the space.

The client also went for a “shaker style”, traditional kitchen. Crisp lines and a contemporary colour scheme give this a modern touch. We worked closely with the kitchen installation company to make the most of this space, building in angled cabinets and a cushioned bench just below the window.
