Compton Way.

Location: Farnham
Date: 2024

A prime example of good things taking time, the Compton Way project took almost all of 2023 to complete.

Our client already had a considerable sized property, but wanted to make it much bigger, more modern and more family-friendly.

As the property is based in an area that’s great for investing, we also made value-adding decisions throughout the build, future-proofing the home and considering ROI at all times. The family moved out of the property while Heronlake brought the vision to life.

A home designed around how our clients want to live

The home’s existing layout comprised numerous individual rooms. It wasn’t great for family or for visitors, so our client wanted to incorporate more open-plan spaces and “zoning” to better suit their everyday life.

We began by building single-storey extensions: A huge rear extension which opened up a bigger lounge, snug and bar area, as well as a front porch, and a side extension that became a new utility space. We also refurbished an outbuilding on the property’s grounds.

A new front door with glazing and a double-height entranceway crafted from a feature oak stairway made the front of the home more open and welcoming. Inside, we opted for brand-new everything, from windows and floors to bathrooms, emphasising character and giving the home a more contemporary feel.

Ultimately, we created new space and found ways to use existing spaces in better ways.

Functional features that feel like luxury

Our client wanted their home to be functional without impacting aesthetics, and had a clear idea of the extra rooms and features needed to complement their lifestyle and streamline day-to-day tasks.

This included a prep kitchen that was separate from the main kitchen, which the family could use for messy prep work away from guests. They also went for an upstairs laundry room, a media unit, a bar with built-in fridges and sinks, and lots of built-in cabinetry.

Additional features included underfloor heating, outdoor lighting, and sliding doors to zone off areas and keep them feeling warm and cosy. Behind the scenes, there was a big push to ensure the plumbing and electricals were well-designed and running smoothly, for year-round comfort and a more efficient home.
