As people who love cooking and entertaining friends, our clients wanted a home that could accommodate them. The overarching goal was to create more downstairs living space, with a focus on opening up and brightening up the kitchen to make cooking more enjoyable.
The client had a good sense of their own unique style. What they needed from us was someone to bounce ideas off and share recommendations based on our experience. While the client chose most of their interior features, colours and fabrics, we interpreted the architect’s plan to make sure everything would work in practice.
“We would recommend Heronlake 100%, without hesitation. Without us changing requirements, Heronlake would have delivered way ahead of schedule and below budget. We’re absolute amateurs and Heronlake really helped guide us, giving options and practical recommendations when we needed to make decisions and purchases.”

A light-filled home that’s fit-for-purpose.
Heronlake got to work on a single-storey rear extension with a green roof, which draws extra light into the room and looks beautiful from the client’s upstairs window.
For an interior that better matched our client’s taste and lifestyle, we refurbished almost all of the ground floor. As well as the kitchen/entertaining space, this spread to the existing lounge and included an update of the ground floor bathroom. Outside, we built a patio and sleeper wall, and took care of some landscaping.
“Having building work done is stressful but it really helps to have a team you can completely trust! Everyone that worked on our project was really nice to have around. It makes a difference to be able to have a chat and laugh throughout!”

Stand-out features of Bridge Road.
The newly introduced light from the extension now flows through the ground floor, changing the feel of the house. We love the interesting colours and fabrics chosen by the client. They incorporated their mix of minimalist and maximalist styles, with plenty of crisp white and bold orange that makes the home feel retro yet fresh and modern.
A built-in banquette with funky fabric in the kitchen is a unique element that will be a definite talking point at the client’s next dinner party.
