In My Space with Georgina + Sam | Client Chit-Chats

Georgina, Sam and family wanted a home that fit around their lifestyle – not the other way around. With a great eye for design and plenty of ideas to use space creatively, they joined forces with Heronlake and an architect. Together, we brought some cool concepts to life.

HL: Thanks for having us! It’s so good to see the finished product. How’s the new space treating you? Let’s talk about how it’s impacted your life and daily routine so far.

G+S: The new space is amazing, everything flows really well. It works for us daily as a family and also for entertaining. It’s made such a difference to us because we can all be in the same room without feeling like we’re on top of each other.

HL: What’s your favourite part of your routine since having your new space?

G+S: We love coming in the front door and having a nice open area with lots of storage. It feels warm and inviting.

HL: We love that, too. Is it everything you wished for?

G+S: We are so happy with all the work; it’s everything we wanted from the build and more!

HL: Happy days! Let’s talk a bit about how we got to this point. How did you work with us to create the space you had in mind?

G+S: We worked with an architect and Heronlake from the beginning. It was great having the architect work out all the practicalities and then Heronlake helped bring it all to life. We wanted to keep a close eye on every part of the build, so we had a lot of input in all stages. 

HL: And what made you decide to go with Heronlake in the first place? 

G+S: Heronlake was recommended to us by friends who had used them several times. We instantly liked them and felt they would be great to work with. 

HL: Ah, thank you. What was your design inspiration for the renovation?

G+S: Our design was primarily based on creating a practical space, as that was the first priority. A lot of the decor and detailing ideas came once the extension had been built. Being creative people we both had ideas about the look we wanted to achieve, and with some back and forth we came to a compromise on what the final look would be for each room/area.

HL: It’s all come together so well. What’s your favourite element of the project?

G+S: It’s hard to pick a favourite part of the design because we love everything. We’ve really enjoyed working with the carpenters to create the bespoke details like the desk and banquette seating. The half-height walls have worked really well with regard to ‘zoning’ the main living space. We love the armchair in the picture window, it’s such a calming place to sit

HL: The zoning was a touch of genius! To you, what makes a house a home, and how has the updated space changed the way you live?

G+S: We’ve put our heart and soul into renovating the house, so every design detail that we’ve added has a little piece of us in it. It feels like our home because it’s been designed around our needs and that of our children. 

HL: Seeing that come to life has been a definite highlight for us. So would you recommend Heronlake to your friends?

G+S: We would recommend Heronlake because they are a friendly, efficient and hardworking team. They are approachable and adaptable, and accurate with their costings. All of this gives peace of mind throughout the build. We will be using them again for the next stage of our renovation.
